After picking up the final pair in the AF1-B pack, I wasn’t sure what the next Forces were going to be for the collection. The Nike Air Force 1 Acorn is a direct retro of a 2002 release. When the originals dropped, many assumed they were a Euro exclusive, although they eventually released at outlets in the US.
Features/Materials
Starting off we have a white Nike Air logo on a tan nylon tongue. This all sits on a canvaslike textile tongue. We have leather eyelets with an embroidered swoosh at the top of the toebox in leiu of a deubré. The toebox is that same textile material from the tongue and has a leather mudguard. On the side we have the leather swoosh sitting on top of another textile panel. On the midsole we have AIR debossed. More leather towards the back with another Nike Air Logo in white stitched onto the backtab. The ankle liner appears to be a very smooth leather. The insole is brown with a white Nike Air logo and the outsole is brown.
These ship with brown flat laces and come in the black AF1 box which usually indicates a higher quality release, as opposed to the grey box GRs (or general releases) come in. Overall, no extras really, but this shoe is really all about the retro of this specific colorway so this is not surprising.
How is the Quality?
Usually black box AF1s have a bit better quality than grey box, and these are no exception. The leather seems somewhat basic but a bit more premium than we normally get on an Air Force 1. Not quite to the level of a pair of craft, but still, noticeably better than a GR. The textile material seems fine. It’s rough to the touch and seems like it could rip easily but the craftsmanship seems there. Overall with only 2 materials on the shoe there’s not much to go off, and while nothing here is particularly buttery, these do the trick of providing a 1:1 to the 2002 release at decent quality. I think most Air Force 1 fans will be happy to get a wearable pair of this sneaker
How Do They Fit?
I normally wear a size 10 in most Nikes and Jordans. I consider that my true Nike size. Air Force 1s tend to fit big on me in general, so I opt for a 9.5 when I can. So as far as sizing, I recommend that whatever you normally get in Air Forces, go a half size down. If you’ve ever worn AF1s before, just get that same size.
I find the fit at the half size down is slightly more snug around the toebox on these, probably thanks to material. Still in the long run I feel like it’s the best fit since the uppers are pliable and will break in rather quickly.
The comfort is there for me on Air Force 1s. I do think that you have to get used to the chunkier, more old school fit but once you do these are definitely comfy. There’s a thick midsole with an encapsulated Air unit that keeps you off the ground with a solid bet of cushioning with just a bit of give. The uppers are pliable and thus after a couple of minutes break-in are fairly comfortable as well. These aren’t my favorite model for all day wear, rather a runner for that, however for a few hours these will definitely do the trick. Overall I think if you like the fit on AF1s then you know what to expect here, and if you’ve never tried it, once you get used to it you will like it.
Here’s a chance to finally get this colorway. Any real fan of the AF1 would not pass this retro up. I obviously made sure I got my pair and I’m glad I did! The colorway is spot on to the OG as far as I can tell. The details here are minimal, but it does the trick since that’s how the 2002 version is. The materials on here seem good; at least good enough to suit this type of release, and better than a GR pair. Comfort is of course dependent on how much you like this type of thick soled shoe, some don’t find these the best but personally I like them! Most importantly though, these look great on feet!
